Form Independent Style Merchants of San Francisco

San Francisco's culturally advanced urban environment and abundant manufacturing resources make it fertile ground for innovation in style. During the '90s, the city has spawned a number of fiercely creative independent design companies with unique approaches and international appeal.

Eight of these companies have formed Independent Style Merchants of San Francisco, a not-for-profit organization working to improve the environment for small, creativity-driven apparel companies like theirs. They believe that cooperation will allow them to retain their originality and achieve greater success.

Formed in early 1996, ISM is working to:
  • increase the visibility of small creatively motivated clothing, hat, and shoe designers that utilize local contracters, suppliers, and retail stores;
  • provide an alternative to the clothing mass produced by large corporations; and
  • cultivate and promote the relationship between the people who make local clothing and those who want to wear it.

Fastpass '96 ISM's first public event was the fabulous Fastpass '96 fashion show, which took place on September 21, 1996.

ISM is available for special orders/projects.
