ABOUT THIS SHOW

Show

Food writer Tamara Palmer (The Feast San Francisco, SFoodie, Bay AreaBites/KQED) and fabric8 are pleased to present Local Flavor, an exhibition focusing on the centuries-old relationship between the visual and culinary arts. In addition to a group art show featuring local artists, fabric8 will be hosting a series of events in conjunction with neighborhood food establishments.

From the classic still life paintings of the Dutch Masters to the licorice portraits of SF mosaicist Jason Mecier, art has continuously addressed the topic of food in contemporary lifestyles. Much like visual art, food can either be easily taken for granted or thoroughly enjoyed as one of life's necessary luxuries. This exhibition takes the latter approach.

With Local Flavor, Bay Area artists Jason Mecier, Reuben Rude, Nome Edonna, Rachel Major, Romanowski, Dmitri SFC, Phokos, Andy Stattmiller, and Brandon Dicks come together to address the subject with a group exhibition of artwork.

To correspond with the show, local establishments such as Lucca Deli and Papalote will host special food events at fabric8 to reintroduce their culinary artistry in a fun and unique way. For over a year, fabric8 has been offering up their space to burgeoning food carts during their weekly Street Food Fridays events, and Local Flavor will be a way to expand that concept to include the already-existing neighborhood institutions.

Local Flavor was on exhibit from October 8 through November 1, 2010 at fabric8, 3318 22nd Street, San Francisco.
